The heart of the Hellenistic culture was actually in Turkey. For thousands of years settlements were founded along the Aegean Sea, in the area called "Asia Minor". The remains of those settlements are a fascinating historical testimony of the power and cultural variety that characterized this region.
In Turkey we find the most compelling evidence of the Classical architecture that featured in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The survey in Turkey took several years. About 100 sites were documented in more than 15 photography tours - A 22,000 kilometer voyage done by car, foot and ship. Some of the most sequestered sites demanded hiking in difficult terrain and camping outdoors. It was a wonderful journey in this beautiful and fascinating land, whose population is welcoming and hospitable.
