The city is located 5 km west of Cine.
The name of the city is derived from the Carian words meaning Ala (horse)and banda (race).
Stephanus, the Byzantine historian relates that it is because Alabandos the son of king Car, had won a horse race.
Alabanda had been destroyed by V.Philippos (222-175 B.C.) the king of Macedonia.
After Rome had become entirely the dominator of Anatolya, in 70 B.C.,
Alabanda had joined to Asia province as the 21st city, and became the capital of district.
Alabanda was in good relationship with Rome in the 1st century B.C. and 2nd century A.C.,
Strabon reported that the city was very rich, the people were very fond of amusement
and fun, and there were many girls playing the harp in the city.
Alabanda had joined the Byzantine Empire in the 4th century A.C., and after a while it became the center of the Aphrodisias episcopacy .
Bouleuterion (Council Chamber)

The government building is located to the north of the city.
It is a rectangular construction. There are four entries in the south of the construction,
one in the east and one in the west.
Seat rows were shaped in semicircle. The upper part of the north outer wall is adorned with plaster decorations.
Theater

The theater is at the side of a hill in the north of the city. It was constructed in the Hellenistic period, and had been used, with changes, all through the Roman and Byzantine periods.
