Sillyon

In the city, there are remains from the Hellenistic, Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The establishment of the city coincides with the migrations following the Trojan War. As it is the same with other Pamphylian cities, Mopsos and Calchas are considered as the legendary founders of the city.
The name of the city appears first in Skylak the geographer's works dated from the 4th century B.C. On coins from the 3rd century B.C., the name of the city is "Selyviys". The oldest names are known to be "Silluon" and "Sillyon". The inhabitants of the city were called "Sillyeis". The city was invaded in 333 B.C. by the Macedonian Alexander the Great, and a garrison was stationed in it. Sillyon was used as a military defense fortress during the age of the Persians.
The city was also inhabited in the Byzantine age and later by the Seljuks in the 13th century A.D.
