Lyrbe (Seleukeia)
140 pictures
5.0 minutes HQ video
One of the Pamphylia Region's antique cities.
View from the Site (east)

It is located on a mountain 23 km to the north-east of Side. It is on the top of a hill whose flanks are absolutely vertical on three sides.
Its first name Lyrbe, was taken from an inscription found in the city, written in Side's language. It can be learned that Lyrbe had a long history.
On Roman coins (30 B.C. - 395 A.D.) are shown the holy stone and holy tree old Anatolian traditions. From this we learn that the city was founded before the Seleucids re-established it during the Hellenistic period (330-30 B.C.).
