In the vicinity of the fertile Ayalon valley, along the Jerusalem Jaffa thoroughfare, lies a Tel upon which the ancient city of Jazar was once built. The site has been under extensive archeological scrutiny for many years, resulting in a rich and well documented knowledge of the settlement.

Tel Gezer

During the Bronze Age, Jazar which was populated by Canaanites gained much importance. During the early 20th century, an Alter, situated in the middle of the city, was retrieved. This Alter dates back to the 12th or the 13th centuries B.C., thus tying the site unequivocally to the late Canaanite Period. This holy site beholds ten, large stone tombstones which form a straight line. Close by stands a stone basin made of stone. These tombstones are not ordained in any way, thus leaving no trace as to their symbolic meaning or for which Canaanite god they were ordained. Subsequent digs have revealed parts of the ancient city's walls and its main gateway.
