Manim

In Genosar Valley, somewhat far from the coast of the Kinneret, traces of a large building is found. It was a palace which was probably built by the Khalif Walid I (the beginning of the 8th century A. D.), a descendant of the Umaya dynasty.

Manim

The structure is shaped like a square, fortified by walls on all four sides, on which corners round and half round towers were fixed, in the middle of each side of the wall. The church gate was fixed to the east. Originally, it was a complex building, roofed by a dome, and decorated. For the most part, it was a building that had wings of rooms around a central courtyard. On the southern side of the yard stood a mosque. The ruler's reception room, as well as other rooms, which were probably used as bedrooms, are floored by colorful mosaics. A stairway led to another floor, which was not preserved. Since the palace is located in the middle of a fertile agricultural area, it was probably an agricultural mansion, which was fortified and well equipped for the ruler. During Mamluk times (13th-14th. centuries), a large motel was built somewhat north of the palace, which is called Manim Motel (Hanot Manim) in present days. It stands on the road passing through the Jordan valley, from Tiberias to Damascus.
