Islamic sites in Israel

In 1260 the Mamelukes came to dominate the Land of Israel. They were an elite scat of soldiers, whose center was in Cairo, Egypt.
The Mamelukes' attitude toward the land and its inhabitants was quite different from that of their predecessors, the Crusaders. They were interested mainly in strengthening their army and glorifying their leaders.
Their construction projects were mostly of a religious nature, and many of them took place in Jerusalem. Economically and agriculturally the land was neglected. The cities and harbors of the coastal plain were deserted as the population moved inland.
The importance of the Land of Israel at those times focused on its being a passage between Egypt and Syria. For that end the roads of the land were attended to and new bridges were built.
In 1516 the land was conquered by the Ottomans, who stayed in power for the next 400 years. This is the longest continuous rule of a single dominator in the history of the Land of Israel. At first, the Ottomans ruled in a very firm and efficient way, uncomparable to the decadence that characterized the last days of the Mamelukes' kingdom. However, soon the Ottoman rulers became more and more corrupted themselves.
Napoleon's campaign in the Land of Israel during the years 1798-1799 pretty much signifies the end of the Ancient period.
In the current project hundreds of Islamic sites were photographed and documented. The photographs and video segments are organized and cataloged conveniently
Here are few examples of photographs of the Islamic sites in Israel. For a detailed verbal description of the sites, please check "Archaeological sites in Israel"
