Honin

Honin was an Arab village that was abandoned during Israel's War of Independence. A Crusader fortress stands at the side of the road leading to Moshav Margaliot at the Upper Galilee.

The Fortress

The fortress was erected during the Crusader period (1099-1291 CE). The Crusaders built fortresses at weak points of their kingdom, as part of their constant war against the Muslims. Religious orders of knights, called "The military orders", manned the Crusader fortresses. All the fortresses were positioned in a way that would allow a clear sight line between them, in order to alert each other against Muslim invasions. The fortress at Honin has a sight line to Nimrod's Fortress at Kal'aat Namrud and other fortresses in Lebanon.
