The Galilee is divided by two main thoroughfares, one leading from Tiberius, along the western side of the lake to Bnot Ya'akov Bridge, the second, expands from west to east, thereby dividing the Galilee.

Archeological surveys have shown that these routes, particularly the first, were in demand during the Roman and Ottoman periods. During the Ottoman period commerce developed to the extent that inns were erected along the route in order to satisfy the growing needs of the merchants and travelers.
Close to the intersection of these two routes, near the modern settlement of Amiad, an Ottoman inn which goes by its Arabic name "Jib Yusuf Inn", can be found.
