Churches and Monasteries in Israel
1300 pictures
45 minutes HQ video
The spread of Christianity in the Land of Israel was one of the most important and influential phenomena in the history of the western culture and the destiny of the Jewish people in Israel and the Diaspora.
Jesus Christ, a Jewish native of Israel, preached his teachings among his fellow Jews. After his crucifixion the new religion, Christianity, spread and became the most powerful religion of those times.
The Christians attributed special religious importance to the Land of Israel. Over the years more than 600 churches and monasteries were erected all over the country. Crusades and Monasticism developed since the first centuries AD around sites connected to Jesus and the Apostles.
In the current project hundreds of churches and monasteries were photographed and documented. The photographs and video segments are organized and cataloged conveniently.
Here are few examples of the photographs of churches and monasteries in Israel. For a detailed verbal description of the sites, please check "Archaeological sites in Israel"
