The excellent Retsina wine, at Markopoulo on the way, is perhaps the best in Greece. Inside the sanctuary, where Athenian girls used to go through the initiation rites of passage to adulthood, one can still see five pylons and the plane of the bridge built across the Erassinos River around 450 B.C. The road crossing the bridge led to the sacred enclosure. The surviving structures mostly date from the last quarter of the 5th century B.C.
